THE REDEVELOPMENT
Redevelopment Objectives
  • Redevelopment to be managed with the independence, probity and transparency appropriate to a (largely) publicly funded project;
  • Aim to deliver an overall improvement for the local (Mt Eden) community and the greater Auckland region;
  • New design will be based on enabling an effective economic life for the park for 50 years;
  • Increase the opportunity for multiple use of the facilities by all recreational interests;
  • Maximise the commercial return;

Main Design Features

Modern new stands will be the most apparent aspect visible, less obvious will be the pedestrian flow to and from the stadium. The key features are:
  • A new three-tier 22,000 seat South Stand with 50 corporate boxes;
  • A new, unroofed two-tier East Stand (replacing the eastern terraces) with 8600 capacity and an acoustic barrier behind the stand to contain noise;
  • Extension of the ASB Stand with a 2000 seat lower bowl (replacing the Panasonic Stand);
  • Internalisation of pedestrian movement, within the Eden Park site. Public concourses in the east and west connecting all stands with transport centre and providing access to Kingsland railway station via Walters Rd;
  • A transport hub in the south west of the Park with 12 bus parks for drop off and pick up (post RWC);
  • Increased landscaping around the park perimeter.
